Foreign news reports that the General Electric Co ( GE-US ) is stride to promote the business of solar energy. And GE published a new factory building plan. GE declared that the plant will be the biggest factory in the United States, and will also have a large-scale order of solar energy products.
GE said they will invest about 600 million US dollars for this project, including building the construction with the electric power of 400 MW. And they will employ about 400 workers for this factory.
GE focus on the development of thin-film solar technology, and consider which have more functions than traditional silicon solar panels.
GE says, it has bought the surplus stock of the film solar panel manufacturer (PrimeStar Solar). In 2008, for the first time, GE bought the majority stake of this company.
GE CEO Jeff Immelt said, GE believes that solar and wind have the same opportunities. More than 10 years ago, GE already began to wind business. Now, this business is the revenue source of billions of dollars.
GE said, the global demand of the solar energy (photovoltaics ) may increase 75 megawatts within the next 5 years. And, the new factory will produce enough solar energy panels each year to supply eighty thousand families.
[Comments] The domestic manufacturers are generally focused on the crystal silicon solar photovoltaic components. But, with the conversion’s upgrade of the film type photovoltaic, it is bound to impact the market share of the crystal silicon solar photovoltaic components.
